Ri-Bhoi, April 8: A total of 99 students from the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), who qualified NET/GATE/JRF examinations, were felicitated on Friday under the university’s ‘Pay-Back Policy’.
The felicitation programme was attended by Director of Higher Education, Government of Assam, Dharma Kanta Mili, as the chief guest and Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Arpit Upadhya as the guest of honour.
“To encourage students to qualify NET, GATE, SLET, IAS, or any other top-level competitive examinations conducted by the state and central governments, USTM has introduced the Pay-Back Policy wherein students of the University who qualify these prestigious examinations shall get back their fees. Special coaching and guidance facilities are provided for the aspirants of various competitions,” a statement in this regard said.
In his address to the gathering, Mili said, “I am glad to know that USTM is now an ‘A’ grade university by NAAC which is quite encouraging. It is not simply the glory of Meghalaya but of the entire Northeast. USTM’s mission to become a world class university by 2030 is appreciable.”
Upadhyay, on the other hand, enlightened the students about the hurdles he was faced with while preparing for UPSC civil services examination (CSE).
“Always dream big and set goals which challenge you. The taste of achieving the target set by you is the most cherishing experience. We should never forget that whatever we are able to achieve in our life is all because of our parents and mentors,” he added.
He also expressed his desire to take sessions for UPSC CSE aspirants in USTM.
Speaking on the occasion, USTM Chancellor, Mahbubul Hoque said, “We are extremely happy that even during the pandemic period students had online classes and fared well in the national level competitive exams.”
