SHILLONG: The ongoing load shedding imposed by the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MPDCL) has also taken its toll on the hospitals and public health centre’s (PHCs) especially in the rural areas of the State.

It was reported that Mangsang PHC in Garo Hills was largely affected by the load shedding since the last three days.

Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Sunday, Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek admitted

that the load shedding is affecting not only the rural health centres but even the city hospitals.

“The department has to ensure that some alternative measures are taken so that medical services are not affected,” Hek said.

While most of the city hospitals have their own generator sets, the same is mostly not available in rural health centres which continue to suffer due to the ongoing load shedding.
