Agartala: Students caught ragging other students in any educational institutions in Tripura will be get a maximum of four years in prison and a fine, a government notification said here on Wednesday.
A Tripura government notification said that “under the Tripura Educational Institutions (Prevention of Ragging) Act, 1990, four years in jail and a fine would be imposed” on a student found guilty of ragging another student”.
The notification was issued by the director of the department of higher education of Tripura to alert students, guardians and authorities of educational institutions after recent media reports of incidents of ragging in educational institutions in the state.
“If a student in any educational institution has been convicted under the act, he or she shall cease to be a student of that institution and shall be deemed to have been expelled from the establishment with effect from the date of his or her conviction,” said the notification.
Assembly unhappy with poor CDR:The Tripura assembly has expressed displeasure over the role of nationalized banks for poor performance in credit flow over the years.
Both ruling and opposition party members urged the state government to take up the matter with the Reserve Bank of India because the credit-deposit ratio in the state has remained same in three years.
Finance Minister Badal Choudhury informed the assembly that despite repeated requests and direction from the RBI Governor, the credit-deposit ratio was stranded at 34 per cent against the national average of 78 per cent.
‘The Tripura government has been demanding that the RBI and the central government take appropriate measures to improve the C-D ratio, providing advances and financial support to the people of the region but it do not work,’ Mr Choudhury said.
In 2012-13 financial year the nationalized and private banks had deposited Rs 13,560 crores but the banks had given loans of only Rs 4,532 crores. (Agencies)
