SHILLONG: With dwindling hopes about their academic future and despair writ large on their face, the 2,700 plus students of CMJ University are eagerly awaiting some positive communication either from the University or the State Government.

Two weeks have passed since the Governor, in his capacity as Visitor of the CMJ University, had issued a directive to the University asking it to stop issuing degrees and conducting fresh admissions in the wake of allegations that the University was issuing fake degrees. However, there is no sign of any positive assurance from either the Governor or the State Government to the CMJ students.

Feeling hopeless and helpless, the students of the University have, once again, requested the State Government to act on their plight and come up with a viable solution to the crisis that has put their academic career at stake.

“We request the State Government to pay heed to our request and come up with a solution at the earliest,” said Yangam, an MA student of CMJ University on Wednesday.

The students, while addressing a press conference, further stated that they have been left in the lurch as the Chancellor was absconding and the State Government turning deaf and blind to the plight of the hundreds of students.

Calling on the Chancellor to come overground and clarify on the state of affairs of the University to the students, Yangam said, “We demand the institute to come clear on the issue besides demanding the appointment of a new Chancellor and submission of the annual report to the State Government.”
