SHILLONG, Aug 13: Meghalaya on Saturday joined other states and union territories to launch Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, initiated as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate India’s 75th Independence, will continue till August 15.
According to a statement, the launch programme, which was jointly organised Arts and Culture department here, was attended by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui as the chief guest and Chief Secretary DP Wahlang as the guest of honour.
Rymbui, while expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that the Tricolour, in the past, was used only during select occasions.
“But now we need to realise that as Indians we have to preserve and value the national treasure, national symbol and our pride. This is just part of our duty, our service to respect the nation which has given us so much.”
Extending his gratitude to self-help groups in state for mass-producing Tricolours, he said, “As citizens we should be proud of the country and raise the national flag with pride.”
The Chief Secretary, in his address, informed that the campaign has been launched in a bid to build a personal connection between the citizens and the Tricolour, where the whole idea is to invoke patriotism in the hearts of the people and also to create awareness about the national flag.
Others who attended the programme include Commissioner of Arts & Culture department FR Kharkongor, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo, school students, artistes, senior citizens, among others.
