SHILLONG, Jan 13: The Congress on Friday rejected the claims of the National People’s Party (NPP) made in its document titled ‘Promises Delivered’, stating that it does not carry much weight before the electorates.
“I don’t think their performance is up to the mark or they have fulfilled what they promised in the previous elections. Therefore, whatever promises they will make now will not carry much weight before the electorates who are not going to be fooled time and again,” AICC senior observer of Meghalaya Mukul Wasnik told reporters.
Claiming that there are many shortcomings with the MDA government, he said they may say anything but people will judge them based on their performance.
“We also have a past and I am very proud to say that whatever commitments we made, be it at the Centre or Meghalaya, we fulfilled at whatever cost,” he claimed.
Wasnik said the Congress manifesto will figure issues ranging from employment to youth, women security and empowerment, and health care and education.
State Congress chief Vincent H Pala said, “Whatever report card they may be coming up with but people have lost their trust in them as they could not fulfil the promises they made in the last elections. I don’t think the NPP report card will work.”
He criticised the government on issues including corruption as well as the mining of coal, sand, limestone etc.
“People are facing continuous harassment,” he alleged.
