Shillong, May 5: A 21-year-old suspect late on Thursday opened fire in a town close to the Serbian capital Belgrade, killing eight people and injured ten more. According to local media, this is the second shooting to occur in Serbia in the last two days.
Reports stated that the suspect opened fire randomly with an automatic rifle in the vicinity of Mladenovac, around 50 kilometres south of Belgrade.
The perpetrator, who escaped following the gunshot, was being sought by police. The police have not yet made any statements public.
On Wednesday, a 13-year-old boy opened fire inside Vladislav Ribnikar Primary School using his father’s weapons, killing eight students and a security officer. The shooting sparked calls for gun reform and shockwaves across the nation.
Seven individuals, including a teacher and six children, were injured and sent to the hospital. According to physicians, one youngster is still in critical condition after suffering spinal injuries, and one girl who was shot in the head is in serious condition.
Kosta Kecmanovic, the gunman, was captured by police and provided no explanation for his conduct, according to authorities.
Before killing the guard and three pupils in the hallway, Kecmanovic entered the school. He next went to a history lesson, where he murdered the teacher and several other students.
