Shillong, August 8: Manipur’s Governor, Anusuiya Uikey, has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and security of students from Manipur pursuing studies in various parts of the country. Raj Bhavan officials confirmed her appeal to all Governors and Lt. Governors across states and Union Territories.
The Governor’s concern stems from the ethnic violence that erupted in Manipur on May 3, prompting her to address the potential impact on Manipuri students’ higher education and professional courses in other regions.
As per IANS, Governor Uikey’s letters to her counterparts stressed the importance of safeguarding Manipuri students’ academic pursuits and ensuring they remain undisturbed during this challenging period.
A reassuring response emerged as Governors, Lieutenant Governors, and administrators from all quarters reciprocated, assuring that necessary measures have been implemented to guarantee the students’ safety and preserve their educational journeys. The Manipur Governor expressed her gratitude for this united effort to support Manipuri students during this critical phase.
The Governors of Tamil Nadu and Nagaland emerged as standout examples, pledging to provide essential assistance to Manipuri students in their states. Tamil Nadu committed to aiding 20 students, while Nagaland extended its support to 238 students. This collaborative approach underscores the commitment to stand by these students until normalcy is restored in Manipur.
