TURA, Sep 17: Social activist Nilberth Ch Marak on Sunday sought the speedy and immediate conduct of preliminary inquiry by the Meghalaya Lokayukta into the alleged non-implementation of restoration work on 32 flood damaged pipelines (FDR) GR-B in the entire district of East Garo Hills.
In his letter to the Director of Inquiry and Prosecution, Marak said that an order was passed by the Chairman of the Meghalaya Lokayukta directing A K Sangma, MPS (RTD), member of the Inquiry Wing to conduct a preliminary inquiry on the allegations and to submit the report within three months.
“It is learnt from a reliable source that after receiving the copy of the order on September 8, the opposite party is trying to influence the village elders and the headman to give false statements before the inquiry officers and trying to tamper with the evidence. It was also learnt that the opposite party is now trying to implement the project to cover up their offence,” Marak said in his letter.
Marak urged the official to take up the matter urgently and speed up the inquiry as well as to submit the report in time.
