BSF, police seize 42,000-kg sugar

TURA, April 29: The Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya Frontier, along with the South Garo Hills police, on Sunday foiled a smuggling attempt along the Indo-Bangladesh border in South Garo Hills, and confiscated more than 42,000 kg of sugar.
Based on specific information, 200 Bn BSF Meghalaya and police personnel had conducted an operation near the international border, following which the huge quantity of sugar, worth over Rs 16 lakh, was recovered from an abandoned house.
The seized item was then handed over to the Rongara police station for further action.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation conducted by the BSF in East Khasi Hills, sarees, worth more than Rs 3 lakh, were seized while they were being smuggled to the neighbouring country.
