Agnes may play mediator’s role?
SHILLONG: A day after the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) announced its decision not to be a part with any agitation in future, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has indicated that government might appoint its chief Agnes Kharshiing as the mediator between the State government and agitating pro-ILP groups.
“Government will examine a proposal in this regard,” Dr Sangma said while addressing newsmen here on Thursday.
Welcoming the stand taken by CSWO, the Chief Minister urged other pro-ILP groups to emulate the example set by the women’s organization.
“I urge all the pressure groups to take recourse to the trend set by the CSWO which is a way forward of how we can engage actively,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s statement came a day after CSWO, which is one of the fourteen pro-ILP pressure groups, decided not to be part of the agitations anymore ‘but will use the law as its tool to fight on any issue.’ “It should be an endeavour of every one to raise any issue democratically without resorting to violence,” he said adding that democracy provides enough space to people to raise issues and take them to their logical conclusions.
