SHILLONG, June 13: Buoyed by their recent performance in the Lok Sabha elections in Tura, the Congress is confident that the party is witnessing a revival in Meghalaya where it has lost considerable foothold over the years.
Congress Legislature Party leader, Ronnie V Lyngdoh on Thursday said the result in Tura is an indication that the party is in revival mode now.
Asked about the party’s loss in the Shillong seat, he said there are many factors which led to the rise of the Voice of the People Party in Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
The party is also gearing up for the Assembly bypoll in the Gambegre seat which has fallen vacant after Saleng A Sangma tendered his resignation following his win in the Lok Sabha election.
Lyngdoh said the party would collect feedback from party leaders in Garo Hills before deciding on their candidate.
“We are going to meet once Saleng returns from Delhi after taking oath as the MP,” the CLP leader added.
He also made it clear that the party is yet to decide on a candidate to contest the bypoll from the Gambegre constituency which will be held within six months.
