Short film competition at city college

SHILLONG, June 18: As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebration of teaching Science at Shillong College, a short film competition was held on Monday on the theme of ‘Shattered Reflection: Meghalaya’s Rivers in Distress,’ which aimed to highlight the environmental challenges faced by the rivers in Meghalaya, emphasising their current state of distress and the need for conservation efforts.
The screening of the short films showcased the creative endeavours of participants from both open and inter-college categories. Each film presented a unique perspective on the theme, reflecting diverse narratives and artistic interpretations of Meghalaya’s river ecosystems.
In the open category, Rivers Requiem by Rinaldi Kharbani, Banlam Marwein, and Aiban Lyngdoh won the best short film.
In the inter-college category, The Weeping Waters by Rakari Kimebal R Marak, Cherik K Momin, and Noaki R Marak of St. Edmund’s College won the first place, while second place was won by Mebanpyntngen Kyrsian Ryntathiang, Steve Marwein, and Bitstar Kharsahnoh of Shillong College for their short film called Ngi pynjaboh hi ngi kynnoh hi ia kiwei.
The third place was secured by Waterscape Woes: A Story of Despair by Badappalei Kharbuli, Henry Vanlelfela Marboh, and Meba ai Haban Biang Lyndem of Synod College.
The winners were honoured with cash prizes, trophies, and certificates.
The event was attended by Arts and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh, who was the chief guest of the occasion. Other dignitaries included Commander Shangpliang, an eminent filmmaker; Tyrel Lyngdoh, a creative producer with The Hills People; and noted environmentalist Dr HH Mohrmen.
