SHILLONG, July 8: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is investigating allegations of fund misutilisation amounting to Rs 5.58 crore by Hima Mylliem.
This was informed by KHADC Deputy CEM Pynshngain N. Syiem on Monday.
Speaking to media persons, Pynshngain said that the KHADC had summoned Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ainam Manik Syiem, to address the allegations.
Pynshngain stated that they have heard Ainam’s explanation regarding the accusations.
According to him, a hearing was conducted on July 2, and a show-cause notice was issued to Hima Mylliem for clarification on the matter.” The investigation is ongoing, and the council is awaiting further responses from Hima Mylliem regarding the queries raised,” the KHADC Deputy CEM said.
“We need to thoroughly examine the documents submitted by Hima Mylliem. The complainant claims that the land belongs to the Hima, but the Syiem of Mylliem asserts that the land belongs to Raid Mylliem,” he added, emphasising the need for a proper probe before determining responsibility.
The allegations surfaced on May 9 when several Myntris of Hima Mylliem filed a complaint with the KHADC, accusing the Syiem and elders of Raid Mylliem, including the Secretary, of misutilising funds.
The disputed funds were received as land compensation from the state government for the acquisition of Hima Mylliem land for the expansion of the Shillong-Dawki road project.
The Myntris alleged that the compensation was not deposited into Hima Mylliem’s account.
It may be recalled that this complaint was first lodged by the Myntris in October last year.
