SHILLONG, Feb 26: Union Minister of State for Education and DoNER, Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday urged pressure groups in the state to accept the fact that railway connectivity will provide employment to the youth and also bring development.
Emphasizing that connectivity is required for the development of any state or region, he said, “Without connectivity you cannot bring development. We have a huge number of educated youth in the state. We need jobs for the youth and industries are necessary for jobs,” he said.
He said this while replying to a query on the opposition against railway projects in the Khasi and Jaintia regions of the state by pressure groups.
Highlighting that a lot of work has been done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in terms of connecting several states by railways, he said, “Railway connectivity is necessary for development of any state.”
There is stiff opposition to railways from the pressure groups citing the threat of large-scale influx. They are in no mood to discuss the railways until and unless anti-influx mechanism like the ILP is implemented in the state.
