SHILLONG: The traffic jam on the National Highway 40 has become a regular affair despite the State Government’s several promises in the past to check this problem.
In May, the State Government had decided to install electronic display boards at two important junctions of the city to inform people about the traffic situation on the highway.
However, no electronic board has been put up either at Lumdiengjri or Mawlai along Guwahati-Shillong Highway.
A senior state government official on condition of anonymity said that it was the responsibility of the PWD to install the electronic boards.
The main purpose of these electronic boards was to inform the people and commuters about the traffic situation on the highway so that people can accordingly take alternative routes to Guwahati.
When contacted, an official of the PWD (R) said that he is not aware about any such move to install electronic boards anywhere in the city.
