SHILLONG, Sep 20: Meghalaya and other parts of the Northeast are currently experiencing frequent monsoon rains, a pattern that is expected to continue with periods of light showers and heavy downpours until the end of September.
Thangjalal Lhouvum, head of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Shillong, stated that the monsoon usually begins its withdrawal in the first week of October. However, he noted that this year, there’s a possibility of an earlier withdrawal.
While the region is currently seeing frequent rainfall, Lhouvum said that the downpour will likely subside temporarily before intensifying again toward the end of the month.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted a varied weather pattern across the state from September 20 to 26. Residents in the Garo, Khasi, and Jaintia Hills can expect light to moderate showers over the weekend, with rainfall intensity increasing significantly mid-week, accompanied by warnings for heavy rain in some areas.
The daily forecast is valid from 8:30 AM IST of the given day until 8:30 AM IST the next day.
