SHILLONG, Oct 28: The Gorkha Association Shillong on Tuesday felicitated Dr Eklabya Sharma, an eminent Indian ecologist and environmental scientist and specialist, who was awarded Padma Shri in 2024, at a special felicitation function in his honour at Upper Mawprem Cultural Centre, Shillong.
Dr Sharma hails from Kurseong, Darjeeling, and attends his work from Siliguri.
He is a Senior Scientist, Ecologist and Strategic Advisor, ATREE, Fellow Indian National Science Academy, former Deputy Director General, ICIMOD, Kathmandu, Vice Chancellor, TERI, School of Advanced Studies and president of the International Society for Tropical Ecology.
The felicitation function was attended by a large gathering. The Chief Advisor of Gorkha Association, CM Rdhikari, delivered the welcome address, while general secretary Madhu SS Rawat read out the citation presented by the Association to Dr Sharma. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Madhab Upadhaya.
The programme also saw an enthusiastic crowd interaction with Dr Sharma.
