SHILLONG, Jan 29: Shillong will host an international conference titled “Scaling Nature-based Solutions for Himalayan Resilience” on January 30–31, 2026. Organised by the Government of Meghalaya in partnership with the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the event will bring together policymakers, researchers, development partners, private sector representatives, youth, and community leaders from across the Indian Himalayan Region and the wider Hindu Kush Himalaya.
The conference will focus on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) as integrated approaches to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and livelihood security in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions. Discussions will explore strategies to scale up NbS through stronger policy alignment, institutional frameworks, financing mechanisms, technology, and partnerships.
Meghalaya’s experience with landscape-level initiatives such as MegARISE will be highlighted, alongside ICIMOD’s regional work under programmes like HI-REAP. The conference aims to generate actionable pathways for Meghalaya, policy recommendations for the Himalayan region, and stronger regional collaboration on mountain resilience.
