SHILLONG, Feb 16: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Sangma has claimed that the prevailing sentiment in Garo Hills reflects widespread frustration and a lack of trust in the state government.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, Sangma described the current political climate as a turning point. “GHADC politics is a serious matter,” he said, questioning whether recent administrative shifts were standard practice.
He specifically criticised the state government’s decision to directly pay the salaries of GHADC employees, labeling it a direct infringement on the Council’s autonomy. “It was a trial balloon. If it succeeds, they will do the same in the KHADC and JHADC,” Sangma warned, asserting that the District Councils belong to the people rather than any political party.
