SHILLONG, April 8: The Meteorological Centre, Shillong, has issued a five-day weather warning for Meghalaya, forecasting widespread thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hail across the state from April 8 to April 12.
Most districts are under an orange alert for April 8 and 9, signifying a need for preparedness. During this period, thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph are expected, with speeds potentially reaching 50 kmph in isolated areas. Heavy rainfall and hail are also likely in some parts of the state.
From April 10 to April 12, the intensity is expected to decrease, with yellow alerts issued across the state. However, unsettled weather conditions, including lightning and gusty winds, are likely to persist.
According to the advisory, heavy rainfall is categorized between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, while very heavy rainfall ranges up to 204.4 mm. Precipitation exceeding 204.4 mm is classified as extremely heavy.
Residents have been urged to exercise caution and take necessary precautions against lightning, strong winds, and hail during this period.
