KHLIEHRIAT, April 16: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the East Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Transport Association (EJHTOTA) and the Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA) has granted a one-time exemption to 10 bulker trucks caught in its ongoing indefinite strike.
The decision follows a request from the East Jaintia Hills district administration to release the trucks—which were in transit before the April 14 strike notice—to prevent their cement cargo from spoiling.
JAC secretary Kyrshan Dkhar, who also heads the EJHTOTA, clarified that this is a unique allowance for 10 specific vehicles identified by their registration numbers. However, the committee issued a stern warning that it would not be held responsible for the consequences should these trucks return to the district. The operators have reportedly agreed not to re-enter the area.
Dkhar called on members of both associations to remain vigilant at strike sites to protect the interests of local truck owners. He maintained that the decision to release the vehicles had majority support and was necessary to avoid logistical complications.
The JAC concluded its statement with a warning to Star Cement, asserting that further action would be taken if the company fails to meet its demands.
