Two convicted in separate criminal cases in SWGH

AMPATI, April 21: South West Garo Hills Police have secured convictions in two separate cases following successful investigations and trials, marking a significant step in the district’s efforts to ensure justice.
In the first case, the Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Ampati, found Akash Baruah (alias Akash Hajong) guilty under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigated by UBSI Samuel A Sangma, the accused was sentenced to two years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.
In the second matter, involving the POCSO Act, the Special Judge (POCSO), Ampati, convicted Nansing R Marak for sexual offences. Following an investigation by WPSI Winchi G Momin, Marak was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000, with an additional month of simple imprisonment in default of payment.
