SHILLONG, May 11: Amid reports that the NPP, the largest partner in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), is actively trying to woo several UDP MLAs to switch sides, senior UDP leader Kyrmen Shylla has downplayed the development, asserting that there is “nothing wrong” with such political advances.
Shylla clarified that no one from the NPP has approached him personally and that he is not even aware if any other UDP leaders have been contacted. He expressed confidence that UDP supporters would remain loyal to the party and continue to extend the same mandate in future elections.
However, sources claim that the NPP has approached multiple UDP leaders, with party MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar reportedly on the verge of joining the NPP.
