SHILLONG, May 23: The Hima Mawphlang has announced the temporary closure of the Sacred Grove on Monday as a mark of respect following the demise of Myntri D. Kharhunai.
According to a notification issued by the Hima on Saturday, the Sacred Forest will remain closed to visitors from 1 pm to 4 pm.
Kharhunai, who passed away on Saturday, was the official in charge of the Sacred Grove and was closely involved in its administration and preservation for many years.
The Lyngdoh of Hima Mawphlang, CA Lyngdoh, stated that the suspension of entry is a tribute to the late leader.
“We request all tourists, visitors, tour operators, and guides to cooperate with the authorities during this solemn occasion,” he said.
The Hima expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and sought the public’s understanding and prayers for the bereaved family.
