Shillong: The Lapalang Village Council has slammed the BSF for maintaining poor security and failing to adopt measures to curb the continuous and massive raiding of the villagers’ orchards by Bangladeshi intruders.

Alleging that the BSF troops at the border area had failed to check infiltration, Rangbah Shnong of Lapalang village, Oberness Marsynting on Saturday said, “We are not satisfied with the security provided by the BSF and we are better off without them as most of the patrolling jobs are done by the villagers themselves.”

Interestingly, the villagers accused the BSF troops of being involved in stealing the forest products and harassing the local residents by seizing most of the items produced by them and selling them in Bangladesh.

“We are more scared of the BSF personnels than these Bangladeshi nationals,” the Rangbah Shnong said, adding that the unpleasant attitude shown by the BSF towards the people has made it hard for them to be respected and trusted.

“Local residents undertake patrolling duties throughout the day especially during the peak agricultural season,” a local resident added.
