Mukul lauds NIFT; calls for support to ‘innovators’

SHILLONG: While congratulating the young talents who showcased their creativity at the closing ceremony of NIFT Fashion Olympiad on Saturday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma advocated the need to support those with innovative ideas.

On the occasion, Sangma also expressed happiness over the association of the upcoming designers with local weavers which promises to boost creation and production of exclusive and exotic.

“This kind of platform will help local designers and weavers to connect with the rest of the world and NIFT has taken the initiative to take it further so as to provide employment avenues to the educated unemployed youth,” the Chief Minister said.

Stating that fashion in today’s world is going green, the Chief Minister said as the fashion world incorporates environmental and other ethical concerns into brand identity, sustainability is becoming the new normal.

“Sustainability means using resources in a way that does not impoverish the planet for next generation,” he said.

Minister for Sericulture and Weaving, Zenith Sangma and Director in charge, NIFT, RR Marak also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Sangma handed over certificates to the students who participated in various competitions.
