Pynshngainlang Syiem: ‘Quits for personal reasons’

KHADC CEM quits

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: In a surprise move, the Chief Executive Member of KHADC Pynshngainlang Syiem submitted his resignation on Saturday afternoon citing personal reasons.

When contacted, the KHADC CEM said he had submitted his resignation to the president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Dr Friday Lyngdoh and the Chairman of KHADC Fabian Lyngdoh on Saturday afternoon on personal grounds.

“I have stepped down as the CEM not due to any external force but due to personal reasons and I want to spend more time for my own constituency,” Syiem explained.

To a query on whether there was any possibility that he would be inducted in the State Cabinet, Syiem said, “Even if they offer me the chair, I will reject it as I want to dedicate my time serving the people in my own constituency”.

Meanwhile, MPCC president Dr Friday Lyngdoh said the name of the new CEM would be discussed in the Congress parliamentary party meeting to be held next week.

According to informed sources, Syiem resigned from the post of CEM as he wanted to spend more time catering to his constituency — Mawsynram — which he had no time to visit after he was elected as MLA/MDC. With the 2013 Assembly polls drawing near, Syiem is planning to divert his time towards his constituency where many of the projects are pending.

It may be reminded that Mawsynram MDC PN Syiem took over as the CEM of KHADC after the then CEM Manstudy Nongrem resigned as the Council chief on August 18, 2010.
