Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today appealed to state to hike the present rate of stipend allotted to students.

A delegation led by union President Takam Tatung called on Finance, Planning, Tax and Excise Minister Kalikho Pul here and submitted a memorandum seeking his initiative.

“Though the salaries of government employees have been increased, the students’ stipend has remained the same all these years..It is time the state government hike the incentive and provide the same on a monthly basis,” the union stated in a communique.

It also urged that the stipend be provided to students of those schools, which were upgraded recently under the ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’ and all defunct hostels of government schools across the state be reopened at the earliest.

The AAPSU urged for extension of classrooms in government colleges like Dera Natung Government College and Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat which are getting crowded due to large number of students.

“Lack of classrooms is hampering the studies of students in these colleges and it is time the state government look into the problem seriously,” AAPSU pointed out.

Expressing concern over the pathetic condition of the North East Homeopathic Medical College, “running without proper lecturers and lab equipment”, AAPSU urged the college management to take urgent steps for smooth maintenance. (PTI)
