Swann pulled up for kicking stumps
Nottingham: English Off-spinner Graeme Swann has been reprimanded for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for kicking the stumps during the day two of the second Test match against India here. Swann was found to have breached Article 2.1.2 of the code which relates to abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match. “After play concluded, the player admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction offered to him by Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing,” the ICC said in a statement. The charge related to an incident at the end of the 80th over of the India innings when the England bowler kicked the stumps in frustration and dislodged the bails. He immediately apologised to the on-field umpires for his actions. (UNI)
Malinga out of two T20s v Aussies
Colombo: Lasith Malinga was left out of the Sri Lankan squad named for the two Twenty20 matches against Australia and the star seamer is facing a battle to be fit in time for the start of the five-match ODI series starting on August 10 in Kandy. National selection committee chairman Duleep Mendis said Malinga was struggling with a back injury and needed to rest “at least for one week”. “We are monitoring his condition,” Mendis told The Sunday Times when asked if the slingy, right-arm quick would be available for the one-dayers. Malinga’s absence would be a major lift for Australia given the fiery quick is a renowned limited-overs bowler with his lethal yorkers. The 27-year-old Mumbai Indians’ pacer is retired from Test cricket and won’t feature in the three-match Test series starting on August 31, meaning his injury could see him not play against the Australians at all on this tour. Resta’s best gives FI 6 points
Budapest: Paul Di Resta recorded his best performance of the season with a seventh place finish but Adrian Sutil ended outside the points bracket as Force India garnered six points from the rain-hit Hungarian Grand Prix here on Sunday. Di Resta, who started 11th on the grid, sneaked into the top-10 in the opening lap itself and dished out a strong performance in treacherous weather conditions. The track was slippery due to intermittent drizzle but the Scottish driver kept his car under good control throughout to end his point-less streak of eight races. The last time he earned points was at Malaysian Grand Prix in April with a 10th place finish. Misfortune though hit Sutil in the opening lap itself as he conceded two positions immediately and then found himself struggling in the back-grid traffic. (PTI)
