Kyntiew Shaphrang wins Bronze for State

SHILLONG: State pugilist Kyntiew Shaphrang Shynret won a Bronze in the 44 kg category as the hosts had to be content with the lone medal in the 2nd Sub-Junior Men National Boxing Championships which concluded here on Saturday.

Shaphrang defeated Mahendra Singh Bhadoria from Madhya Pradesh to claim the Bronze on Saturday.

Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) emerged as the overall champion with 51 points followed by the ‘home of Indian Boxing’ Haryana with 38 points.

Infact, the championship was dominated by boxers of both SSCB and Haryana. The SSCB members displayed an impressive show of skill as they won a total number of seven Golds and two bronze medals.

The Haryana boxers also fared well in the tournament wining a total of four Golds and two bronze medals.

Meanwhile, apart from Manipur, the boxers from majority of the North-Eastern States had a disappointing run in the championship.

The Manipur boxers won two Golds, one Silver and two bronze medals. Mizoram could manage one silver and one bronze while Assam and Sikkim won two bronze medals each.

Nagaland like Meghalaya had also to be content with a solitary bronze medal.

Karling Natung of Arunachal Pradesh who won the Gold in the 48 kg category was adjudged the best boxer of the tournament.
