Guwahati: Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Sunday announced that a new train service would be introduced from November 15 next between Dimapur and Guwahati as announced in the last Railway Budget and declared that it would be christened Nagaland Express.
The minister arrived in Dimapur on Sunday on a two-day visit to Nagaland. Immediately after his arrival at Dimapur airport, Minister informed the media that development of the railway infrastructure in the Nagaland and other northeastern states was high on his list of priorities, according to the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway office here.
The Railway Minister was accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Railway Board besides the General Manager of NF Railway, Keshav Chandra and General Manager of NF Railway (Construction), Vijaya Kanth. The Railway Board delegation was headed by Vinay Mittal, Ex-officio Principal Secretary to the Government of India and Chairman of the Railway Board.
Trivedi went to the Dimapur railway station for inspection and took stock of the developmental activities at the station which has been declared a ‘Model Station’ by the Railway Ministry.
He met various representatives of unions, associations and bodies and received representations/ memorandums.
The Railway Minister later held a meeting with the Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, his eight Cabinet colleagues, two Members of Parliament from the state and other senior State Government officials at Dimapur and discussed several issues related to development of railway infrastructure in Nagaland including those related to land acquisition in connection with the Dimapur — Zubza (88.40 km) new broad gauge line that was sanctioned in the 2006-07 Union Railway Budget.
