Lajong colts win Leapstart tournament

SHILLONG: N Sana Singh and Yamir Kasar of Shillong Lajong FC (U-14) have been selected to train with EPL side Tottenham Hotspur as the Lajong colts lifted the first six-a-side Leapstart U-14 Football Tournament after defeating Delhi Public School (DPS)5-2 in Bangalore on Friday.

The tournament was organized by English football club Tottenham-Hotspur in collaboration with Leapstart.

Leapstart would also organize additional training camp to help the Lajong boys, selected by its (Leapstart’s) panel of experts, prepare for their upcoming exposure trip.

Coming to the match, DPS started the scoring, but Lajong came back strong to equalize through stunning goal form Yami Kasar.

The boys from Delhi went o to the lead again making it 2-1. However, Lajong was awarded a penalty in the closing stages of the first half after DPS defender committed a foul inside the box. Thereafter, Batshkem Nongsiej made no mistake to help Lajong level 2-2.

Lajong ran away with the match in the second half when Kostarland Lyngdoh scored a hat trick to help Shillong team lift the tournament.

Shillong Lajong Chief Scout Kenneth Khongwar said that N Sana Singh and Yamir Kasar have been selected for an exposure trip to England. “They would be going to England in May next year,” he said.

Meanwhile, he also informed that Kestarwell Lyngdoh and Batskhem Nongsiej are also in the standby.
