JOWAI: A police team on Thursday recovered two unidentified bodies from inside a cave-like hole inside the Mooladiang Forest near Lakasein village in Jaintia Hills district.

Saipung Police led by Officer in charge CS Shylla, in the presence of the Extra Additional Commissioner, Khliehriat, Dorin Phawa, Medical Officer Dr Nidamon Pahoh and Khliehriat Circle Inspector G Wahlang, pulled out the highly-decomposed bodies from a 50-feet deep hole inside the forest.

There are allegations that the deceased might have been killed along with one Nimon Paslein by a group of Umkyrpong villagers on October 30 on charges of being Menshohnoh or keepers of U Thlen, believed to be a serpent that thrives on human blood.

Medical officer Dr Pahoh conducted a spot post-mortem examination before the two bodies were disposed off.

“As nobody came forward to claim the bodies, they were buried within the forest area after all formalities were conducted on the spot,” CS Shylla said.

Earlier, the body of Nimon Paslein was pulled out from the same place by his relatives following an appeal made by his sister to the local headman. The body was later handed over to the relatives who performed the last rites on November 13.
