SHILLONG: Yeti Himalayan Sherpas, Nepal registered its first victory defeating SSB, Siliguri 2-0 in the quarterfinal league match of the 22nd All India Meghalaya Invitation Football Tournament at First Division Ground, Polo here on Sunday.

With this victory, Himalayan Sherpas brightened their chances of making into the semi-final. The team from Nepal got their first opportunity to take the lead when a penalty was awarded following a foul on its striker Niranjan Malla inside the box. However, SSB custodian Anindya Sasmaland made a brilliantly save of the spot kick taken by Pukar Gahatraj to deny the goal.

The Sherpas finally managed to break the deadlock after Rupesh KC’s powerful strike of a well crafted pass by Ganesh Khadka hit the nets.

There was no let-up on part of the Sherpas as they shared maximum ball possession in the second half. Continual pressure on the SSB defence soon yielded results as Pukar Gahatraj, who had earlier failed to convert the penalty, struck for his team to make it 2-0.

On Monday Meghalaya Police will take on Nigeria XI .
