By Our Reporter

SHILLONG:The Community and Rural Development (C & RD) Department has decided to file an FIR against the VEC of Mawryngkneng following reports of various anomalies in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme at Mawryngkneng.

Informing this on Saturday, Commissioner and Secretary C&RD KN Kumar said an enquiry has been conducted on this much-controversial case at Mawryngkneng and the reports were found to have included criminal offences.

“So we have decided to file an FIR against this VEC but we have learnt that the people responsible for such irregularities have been removed in the election held recently”, Kumar stated.

When asked about the department initiatives to curb corruption in the implementation of this scheme, the C&RD Commissioner said the department keeps track of such irregularities and if found, action is taken accordingly.

“If such anomalies are highlighted in the newspapers, we send our people to enquire into the matter and accordingly wait for their reports”, he said .

Meanwhile, Kumar also stated that under the State Rural Employment Society (SRES), three programme officers have been appointed who are professionals in their jobs to tackle such cases.

“These officers have been appointed to monitor the functioning of VECs and CECs in various villages.

They have been in the field for almost three months now and they have been conducting enquiry on various cases relating to this scheme and submitted their reports accordingly”, the C & RD Commissioner said.
