Oblivious NEHU delays re-evaluation results
SHILLONG: The long delay in declaring the re-evaluation results of Undergraduates (UG) students by the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has hit the student community hard.
With the Undergraduate examination just few weeks away, students who had applied for re-evaluation in 2011 are having a tough time since their re-evaluation results have not yet been declared by the University.
A student of BSc Final year in a city college said that he had applied for re-evaluation of his Botany-IV paper soon after the results was declared in 2011 but was still awaiting the result.
“I don’t know whether I should study this paper or not since I am totally confused due to the delay in declaring the re-evaluation result,” he said, while adding that his final year examination was due from mid February.
A student of Arts of another city college said that she had also applied for re-evaluation in 2011 and presently she is in a state of uncertainty due to the delay.
“I don’t know what is wrong with NEHU. They should understand the dilemma of the students,” she said.
The delay in declaring the result is giving sleepless nights to the students who have applied for re-evaluation, said many affected students from the city.
These students have questioned as to how much time it takes to re-examine and declare results.
“NEHU should take a leaf out from the other government universities running in the country,” an angry student retorted.
Meanwhile, the NEHU Controller of Examination (CE) said that after a result is declared by the University one-month time is given to the students for applying for re-evaluation of papers.
“After the application we collect the answer scripts from the main bundle and do a decoding of the marks awarded. But evaluators/examiners who are entrusted the task of the re-evaluation don’t stick to their timings,” said the CE, while explaining the reason behind the delay.
He also informed that that if a student’s marks shows huge differences than the answer script is sent to another evaluator/examiner. “But we don’t get the re-evaluation done in time,” he said, while adding that for re-evaluation a panel is constituted by the University which remains valid for two years.
“If there is a lot of variation than the answer script can even go the third evaluator/examiner from the panel,” he said.
He also said that for the Undergraduate-level the panel consists of lecturers from colleges and for PG from the University.
“The reevaluation for PG has been done away with since they follow the semester system. Re-evaluation is applicable for the Undergraduate level only,” he added.
