New Delhi: Three persons, including a couple, were arrested for allegedly running a maid service racket in the national capital and cheating over 50 people to the tune of around Rs 7 lakh, police said here on Tuesday.
Vasudev, his wife Beena and their associate Moni — all hailing from Assam — were arrested on Monday from Rithala Metro Station.
According to police, their modus operandi was that they would initially distribute pamphlets in residential areas that they run a maid placement agency.
“The pamphlet contained their mobile phone numbers and when the prospective employers contacted them, they informed that Rs 10,000-25,000 would have to be paid by the employer as commission,” DCP (Crime and Railways) Ashok Chand said.
Beena or Moni used to join as a maid in the household but used to run away from there the next morning on some pretext or other.
The arrests came on a complaint by a resident of Ashok Vihar area that Bulbuli Maid Service has cheated him on pretext of providing a maid after taking a commission of Rs 18,000.
According to the complainant, the maid only worked with them for a day and then ran away on the pretext of getting milk.
“Till date they have cheated over 50 prospective employers and fraudulently earned Rs 6-7 lakh,” Chand said. (PTI)
