Itanagar: The Union Home Ministry has approved the demand of Arunachal Pradesh for deployment of 2000 additional central and para military forces to maintain law and order, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said here today.
“Deployment of additional paramilitary forces will increase the efficiency of the police and also put to rest concerns over maintenance of law and order in the state,” Tuki told reporters after arrival from Delhi. Tuki had called on Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and submitted a memorandum appealing for additional security forces.
Tuki also sought Chidambaram’s intervention for relief and rehabilitation of those affected by last year’s heavy rainfall which had resulted in landslides, avalanche, loss of lives and massive damage to property.
Chidambaram assured that he would send a damage assessment team and thereafter relief funds would be provided from the National Disaster Relief Fund, Tuki said. On Monday he called on Union Minister of Cultural Affairs and Housing & Poverty Elevation Kumari Selja who approved Rs 36 crore for creation of a Regional Cultural Centre (Village) at Itanagar.
The minister also approved sanctions for upgradation and modernisation of district museums at Aalo and Itanagar. “Similar upgradation and modernization of museums in remaining districts will be taken up subsequently in a phased manner,” Tuki said quoting Selja. (PTI)
