SHILLONG: Its official now. AICC president Sonia Gandhi has accepted the resignation of ailing Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Friday Lyngdoh.
The AICC has faxed a communiqué to the MPCC informing about the acceptance of Lyngdoh’s resignation by the Congress supremo, sources informed on Saturday.
However, Sonia is yet to name anyone to take over the reins of the MPCC.
The MPCC president had submitted his resignation to Dr Dhaniram Shandil and Sanjay Bapna, during their visit to the State last month, to be forwarded to the AICC president.
There has been speculation for quite some time now that Lyngdoh, owing to his ill health, wanted to relinquish his post. There are also indications that Lyngdoh may not contest the next year’s Assembly polls in the State on account of his deteriorating health condition.
It may be noted that Deborah Marak is currently officiating as the MPCC working president.
