Editor,
As a woman I am ashamed to read in the papers and to watch on television news of nurturers and mothers turning murderers. We read of babies abandoned and left to die almost every day and it irks me that a woman has lost her instincts as a woman and does not deter to do deeds heinous and sinful. I read the news with distaste and am disgusted to learn that a mother did not shy away to throw her child in the toilet even after carrying the baby for nine months in her womb. I wonder if her hands did not tremble and her heart did not throb in fear when she committed the sinful deed. What Patricia Rynjah did was no less than an attempt to murder an innocent new born baby of her own flesh and blood. I condemn the act and the perpetrator and cannot help but be appalled over the fact that she was released on bail after she admitted to her crime. This only shows that it is very easy to commit any crime as there would be no punishment for the criminal. I fear that this would only encourage others to do the same and simply walk away scot free. There should be stringent laws against such criminals that would act as a deterrent to others and curb such crimes or else we will have many more such offenders in the days to come.
Yours etc.
