SHILLONG: The Federation of Ri War Mihngi Local Dorbar (FRWMLD) and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) have demanded up-gradation of Pynursla C&RD Block to a civil sub-division.

Announcing their demands here in the city on Thursday, the FRWMLD stated that up-gradation of the Pynursla C&RD Block to a civil sub division has been aspired by the people of that area for a long time.

A 15- member delegation also met the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma here on Thursday to pressurize the government to look into the demand at the earliest.

”The demand for up-gradation of Pynursla block was first taken up in the year 1984 which the government till date is yet to consider”, FRWMLD and JAC adviser AW Khonglam told reporters.

Pointing out that the Pynursla Block in East Khasi hills has an area of 505 square kilometers with a population of 70,000 people in 152 villages; Khonglam said “It is high time that the government upgrades this block at the earliest”.

Meanwhile, the JAC adviser has claimed that the Chief Minister has asked for time and assured that he would look into the matter.

”The CM assured us that he would try his level best to ensure that Pynursla would soon be up-graded into civil sub-division”, Khonglam said.

He further hoped that the government is serious in taking up the issue adding “This is going to be the last time that we are taking up the matter with the government”.
