Shillong: Keeping in line with the demand to increase the salary of adhoc teachers, the adhoc teachers and managing committees of the state under the banner of All Meghalaya Adhoc Lower Primary School Association (AMALPSA) on Wednesday, decided to ask the state government to increase their grant from Rs 3000 per month per head to Rs 12,000 with effect from April 4, 2010.

This decision came after the AMALPSA realized that the demands made by other schools following other improved patterns in the state like the SSA, Deficit etc, have to some extent been addressed and many infrastructural developments had taken place.

“For the past few years, we have been suffering a lot since our salary was limited to Rs 3000 and there were some cases where the salaries of some teachers were being deducted by Rs 100 from the total grant for security and other purposes”, AMALPSA president B Marbaniang told reporters here on Wednesday.

Moreover, the adhoc teachers have also demanded the state government for the sanctioning of two more posts for teachers in the Lower Primary schools stating that at present, there are only two teachers responsible for managing classes 1-4. The association also informed that they have submitted a memorandum to the state government on March this year for which a reply has been sent accordingly.

“However, the reply received was not clear as the state govt simply mentioned that it is considering the proposed solutions to the above demands without giving a specific time-frame “, Marbaniang. They have also asked the government to regularize their posts besides increasing their grant failing of which they will be forced to move ahead with their series of agitations.
