SHILLONG: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is planning to launch its campaign in the State in a big way.

The party has already sent feelers to various political bigwigs including former MPCC president OL Nongtdu and former Chief Minister Salseng C Marak (Congress).

Besides Nongtdu and Marak, the AITC has also approached Laban legislator Sanbor Shullai (NCP), former Mylliem legislator Pynshai Manik Syiem (NCP) and John F Kharshiing (UDP) to join the party.

Sources close to Trinamool Congress informed on Friday that a close aide of former Home Minister RG Lyngdoh has already sent feelers the party regarding his candidature.

The party has been conducting series of consultations and meetings in different districts of the State since the past six months.

Consultations have been going on with a large number of political leaders including sitting MLAs and MDCs, ex-MLAs and ex-MDCs and even social workers for selection of candidates for the post of president and secretary for Meghalaya Trinamool Congress unit.

An interim committee of members headed by a convener will be constituted soon to take care of the party’s Meghalaya unit which would assume charge till the time the official notification of office bearers is issued by the chairperson and general secretary of the AITC.
