JOWAI: Construction work of Malidor Bridge that connects Barak Valley, Mizoram, Tripura with the rest of the country is still under slow progress.

The weak Bailey bridge that connects the route is also not in good condition and vehicles have to cross the weak bridge with risks. Incompletion of the concrete RCC Bridge has affected the load capacity of vehicles transporting essentials commodities and other goods.

Though the Jaintia hills District Administration has under section 244 CrPC restricted the load capacity of loaded heavy vehicles to only 20 metric ton it is seen that many coal-laden trucks are crossing the weak Bailey bridge with load beyond the permisible load capacity.

It may be mentioned here that the PWD Minister had inspected the bridge in 2011.

The Border Roads Organisation, (BRO) which is constructing the bridge, had set a May 2011 deadline for completion of the work.
