This will be a show of Congress unity and solidarity in the region, he added.
Before the exclusive meeting, Lapang, accompanied by MPCC working president Deborah Marak and MPCC secretary Szarita Laitphlang met Sonia and submitted a report of the Rajiv Gandhi Study Circle (RGSC) in Meghalaya. They also apprised her on how the novel concept championed by the MPCC has gained immense popularity in the State.
“Soon this study circle will be extended to all the districts of the hill State,” they informed here. The RGSC was set up in colleges and universities for instilling correct thinking and abiding faith in the great leader’s vision and a thrust of knowledge as a key factor in facing the challenges of the 21st century, Lapang said.
“Our esteemed leader empowered the youth and gave them a vision of 21st century India,” Lapang said. The Study Circle has more importance in the North Eastern region which stands for secularism and communal harmony, he added.
Lapang was summoned by the AICC here along with Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Monday to discuss the party’s preparedness for the President polls. While Dr Sangma returned after the meeting Lapang stayed back, joined by Deborah and others.
