Shillong: The Mawthadraishan Block Congress Committee (MBCC) has taken exception to a recent statement of All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) secretary in-charge Meghalaya, Poonam Bhatia, for undermining Congress MDC from Pariong constituency, Irin Lyngdoh, who is an aspirant for the party ticket for the Mawthadraishan Assembly seat.

“Being a woman herself we never expected the AIMC secretary to insult the party MDC by asking to complete her term as an MDC first before seeking party ticket to contest the upcoming State polls. We had expected her to support Lyngdoh since she is one of the few women who have applied for the party tickets,” MBCC member Ban Warjri said.

“On one hand the AIMC secretary is hoping that at least 30 women candidates would emerge victorious in the upcoming election, and on the other, she is trying to tarnish the image of one of the party’s woman member,” he said.

Warjri also said that the AIMC secretary should have respected the fact that Lyngdoh was a former MLA and had even held the position of a Cabinet Minister.

“As loyal party members we would support anyone who is allotted the party ticket. But we would also not tolerate any negative comments against our local party leaders who have served the best interest of the party,” Warjri said.

Earlier, despite emphasizing on putting up more women candidates in the forthcoming election, the AIMC secretary had expressed her reservations about the prospect of the MDC from Pariong, saying, “Let her first finish her term as an MDC.”

Mawshynrut Block Congress warns Snaitang

The Mawshynrut Block Congress Committee (MBCC) has warned the lone woman ticket aspirant Pelcy Snaitang from Mawshynrut constituency not to create division in the Block Committee.

“We are concerned that a person who does not belong to the constituency is trying to create a rift among the members of the Block Committee,” MBCC secretary Krishon Dkhar said in a statement on Friday.

The MBCC said it was against anyone from outside the constituency applying for the party ticket for the upcoming 2013 election.

The MBCC secretary also criticized Snaitang for holding public meetings in various units without the knowledge of the Block Committee.

“We would no longer allow any person to hold meetings without the information of the Block Committee,” Dkhar added.

Sources, have meanwhile, indicated that dispute has cropped up in the Mawshynrut Block Congress since there are three candidates who are aspiring for the Congress ticket to contest from Mawshynrut.

Besides Snaitang, Methodius Dkhar, who was responsible for bringing the National Self Employment Mission to the State, is also a ticket aspirant. The third ticket aspirant is former Congress MDC from Mawthengkut, Srally Rashir.
