Itanagar: Sixty cases of rape and 160 cases of crime against women were reported in Arunachal Pradesh last year, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) said in its report on the latest crime statistics of the state.

Expressing concern at the rise in crimes against women in the state, the APSCW urged the state government to initiate ‘corrective’ measures to stop atrocities against women immediately. In a memorandum to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Wednesday, a copy of which was made available to the press, the APSCW urged him to initiate appropriate measures to reverse the trend.

As part of the measures to check crime against women, APSCW chairperson Gumri Ringu demanded independent functioning of judiciary, recruitment of more women police personnel and opening of separate women’s cell in every police station to handle cases of crime relating to women and children. (PTI)
