SHILLONG: Even though the dilemma of the 18 candidates qualified for recruitment by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) is far from over, the State Government has called for a fresh advertisement for filling up 60 vacancies for the post of lower division assistants (LDAs).

MPSC officials on Thursday said that it was a policy decision of the Government and with the fresh advertisement for sixty posts being called for only an equal number of candidates would be recommended.

The officials, however, maintained that the MPSC shall maintain a wait list of 25 per cent under wraps and the same would not be declared in the selected list.

It may be recalled that the MPSC had taken recourse to a Supreme Court judgment on a verdict relating to the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) and had decided to only select candidates as per the requirement of vacancies in the advertisement.

The MPSC decision was a bolt from the blue for those candidates who had applied against an advertisement announced in 2008 for 32 vacancies and had appeared the examination in 2011.

126 candidates were declared passed in the examination, out of which 108 were granted appointment while the remaining 18 were left out.
