Shillong: The KSU has denied any sort of involvement in connection with the looting of passengers of a night super bus at Sumer, Ri Bhoi in the wee hours of Thursday while demanding the immediate release of the seven arrested members by Monday.
“We had no involvement whatsoever in the incident which had transpired at Sumer recently and we believe that this was done to defame the union”, president of North Khasi Hills, Ferdynald Kharkamni said here on Saturday.
Ri Bhoi Police on Friday arrested seven KSU youth in this connection. The arrested persons have been identified as Jackie C Mawlong (27), Walter Kharbangar (30), Donald Kharbangar (24), Thompson Satjaw (18), Pappu Syiemlieh (20), Lamniky Syiemlieh (18) and Sunshine Mawlong (18).
The miscreants, while claiming to be members of a students’ organization, forcibly stopped a passenger bus at Sumer and conducted checking of illegal migrants. However, they looted the passengers of their belongings including cash and jewelry.
Meanwhile, when asked whether they are doping the right thing by taking law into their own hands, Kharkamni said “We don’t have the right as NGOs to barge into the infiltration department, but the adamant attitude of the government in this regard had compelled us to do the job on our own”.
He further stated that whenever an illegal migrant was compounded by the police, he was only fined without taking any further step in forwarding the same to the police station or the court.
“This implies that the kind of work being carried out is simply on mid-air which at the end of the day simply encourages the migrants to infiltrate into our land just by paying money”.
